Sigh. Nothing ever really goes as planned, when planned out completely. I spent the better part of the weekend working on a Simplorer release but to no avail. Apparently the compiler really doesn’t like moving projects around at will and gets very angry at you. Even to the point of telling you it’s not going to do it’s job because it’s not in the mood. Reminds me of some cats I know. Actually every cat I’ve had carried the same attitude. Maybe my computer is my cat in another life? Technical problems aside, the new features of Simplorer incorporated well and moving the display code from blueprint over to Simplorer worked as well, so the new Simplorer displays the multi-tile objects correctly and doesn’t seem to have any problems. I’ve also added a skin viewer (well, just a bitmap viewer) which should help organizing those skin files (although, any BMP viewing utility will do the same thing). Sorry I can’t put the skins onto bodies for a SimShow like preview, but that means hunting down the right meshes (which could be located in FAR files) and it would just slow things down too much. Anyways, I’ll see about getting the release out tonight now.

There are some issues about blueprint and running it with some video cards. For instance, the Matrox G400 is one of them. The problem is that either you don’t have the latest video drivers installed or the OpenGL iimplementation that ships with the card is just a mini version, not the full blown one. How do you tell? It depends on the vendor of your card, but first go to their website and download the latest drivers. If that doesn’t fix the problem, let me know and I’ll see what I can do.

This weekend harboured the latest rash of emails. “How do I get my object into the game??” and “Why doesn’t The Sims see my CGS file??”. Do you people just not read anything in your lives? True, I’m the worst propogator for that (computer manuals are tossed into my fireplace for that warming effect) but c’mon people. This is an alpha version that does not do exporting. Period. And I can guarentee you that The Sims will NEVER recognize a CGS file, ever. So stop being silly and read the big noisy pop-up when you launch the program. It’s not there to sell girl guide cookies.
